EMDR: Highly effective and efficient trauma processing
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR is a well established and scientifically proven treatment for PTSD, phobias and other trauma based mental health issues and disorders. It is a recommended treatment by the World Health Organization, and is recognized by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

EMDR is an 8 phase structured therapy. It allows the client to bring up distressing memories while the therapist helps them focus on eye movements (bilateral stimulation) that allow the trauma to process. It reduces the vividness of emotion for traumatic experiences and allows the individual to live a life not controlled by their past.
What does EMDR stand for?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
What happens during an EMDR session?
During an EMDR session, the therapist will ask the client to focus on a specific traumatic memory or image. The therapist will then use a variety of bilateral stimulation techniques, such as eye movements, tapping, or tones, to help the client process the memory. The bilateral movement helps the client's brain connect back to it s natural processing ability which may have been difficult to connect to as the trauma sometimes stays frozen in time at a different part of our brain and is unable to process.
As the client focuses on the memory and experiences the bilateral stimulation, they may begin to have thoughts, feelings, and sensations related to the memory. The therapist will help the client to stay present with these experiences and to allow them to unfold without judgment.
Over the course of several EMDR sessions, the client will typically begin to experience a decrease in the intensity of the emotional and physical distress associated with the traumatic memory. They may also begin to develop new insights and perspectives about the memory.
